Healthy Futures Alliance

HFA is a community coalition to Prevent Teen & Unplanned Pregnancy in San Antonio and Texas. HFA grew out of meetings held in December 2007 for the Texas “Learning Tour” of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. Community leaders, providers, and young adults decided to keep working together on these important issues with emphasis to:

  • Include teens, as well as “20-somethings”
  • A policy component for state and local action
  • Use proven ways, science-based approaches to help reach teens and young adults

Components of HFA’s work include:

  • Building Community Support for the Issue
  • Advocating for improved policies—especially at the state level for young adults and teens
  • Developing messages and strategies to reach 18-24 year old men and women and teens
  • Providing a model for other communities

HFA meets several times each year to learn about the issues, hear from the HFA, network with community members, and work on solutions.  We recently presented HFA members with our strategic plan and asked community organizations and individuals to commit to specific actions that will make the plan a reality!  View our HFA Strategic Plan Logic Model.

At our HFA meeting on June 22, we presented the group with ideas generated from our strategic planning session.  We asked HFA members to generate a plan of action to ensure that these ideas materialize into something meaningful for our community.  As a coalition, we are focused on five main areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact in preventing teen and unplanned pregnancy:  School Based Education, Community Based Programs, Access to Teen Health Services, Message Campaign/Involving Teens, and Parent Progams.

Our next HFA Meeting is December 6,11:30 am to 1 pm at 2300 W. Commerce Street.  Lunch will be provided. RSVP to mdelagarza@healthyfuturestx.org
