Big Decisions Training!

Healthy Futures of Texas is offering a one-day training on Big Decisions on Friday, February 17, 2012. Big Decisions is an abstinence-plus, medically accurate, easy-to-use curriculum that has been evaluated as a “promising program”.

The goal of this training is to prepare teachers, facilitators, health educators, nurses, and nursing/medical students to effectively facilitate the Big Decisions Sexuality Curriculum, which is authored by Dr. Janet Realini. The 10-session curriculum includes lessons on anatomy/reproduction, healthy relationships, contraception, STD’s, goals and dreams, and much more! Attendees will also be trained on effective facilitation of sexuality-related topics.

The training will be held in the Community Room of the Mexican American Unity Council Building (2300 W. Commerce Street, San Antonio, TX, 78207) from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. The cost for the training is $125 per participant,. A Big Decisions curriculum book can be purchased at the training for $75 plus tax.

Thank you to all who attended the HFA Meeting!

Thank you also to Belinda Flores and Dr. Kristen Plastino for their special presentation about evidence-based programs. Attendees learned about “It’s Your Game” and “Reducing the Risk”, two evidence-based sex education curricula.

Healthy Futures of Texas is offering a one-day training on Big Decisions, an Abstinence-Plus sexuality curriculum. Big Decisions is a medically accurate, easy-to-use curriculum that has been evaluated as a “promising program”.

The training is scheduled for Friday, October 7, in the Community Room of the Mexican American Unity Council Building (2300 W. Commerce Street, San Antonio, TX, 78207) from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. The cost for the training is $200 per participant, and includes a Big Decisions curriculum book, worth $75.

Big Decisions is compatible with Texas law and has been approved and used in more than 20 Texas school districts.

HFA: Putting the Plan into Action!

At our last HFA meeting on June 22, we presented the group with ideas generated from our strategic planning meeting. We asked HFA members to generate a plan of action to ensure that these ideas materialize into something meaningful for our community. As a coalition, we are focused on five main areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact for preventing teen and unplanned pregnancy: School Based Education, Community Based Programs, Access to Teen Health Services, Message Campaign/Involving Teens, and Parent Programs. The chart below identifies the area of the strategic plan, the idea generated, and the specific plan of action. Check out the action plan!
