The Healthy Futures Alliance is hosting guests from the Wyman Center in Missouri,who will tell us about Teen Outreach Program (TOP).  ALL are invited to attend!

TOP is an evidence based teen pregnancy prevention program that’s had incredible results. It has been proven to reduce teen pregnancy, lower risk of school suspension, course failure and school dropout rates.

TOP’s power comes from its service learning component, as part of its youth development approach.

We encourage all school districts, community agencies and all  who work with middle and high school youth to attend to hear about this important program. TOP may be used in schools or after school.

Representatives from Wyman will be available to answer your questions about TOP.

A light lunch will be provided.

As the crisis in Texas women’s healthcare is unfolding in San Antonio and around the state, the Healthy Futures Alliance (HFA) is responding. PLEASE JOIN US as we work to address the crisis in women’s healthcare access and to support positive change in our schools.  A light lunch will be provided

HFA is a diverse community coalition to reduce teen and unplanned pregnancy in San Antonio.

Some HFA members classify themselves as pro-life, and others as pro-choice, but ALL of us are working together on prevention. We want every young person to be able to reach their goals and dreams –and to become parents when they want to.

Friday February 17, 2012 from 8:30 AM to 4 PM

Healthy Futures of Texas is offering a one-day training on Big Decisions on Friday, February 17, 2012.  Big Decisions is an abstinence-plus, medically accurate, easy-to-use curriculum that has been evaluated as a “promising program”.

The goal of this training is to prepare teachers, facilitators, health educators, nurses, and nursing/medical students to effectively facilitate the Big Decisions Sexuality Curriculum, which is authored by Dr. Janet Realini. The 10-session curriculum includes lessons on anatomy/reproduction, healthy relationships, contraception, STD’s, goals and dreams, and much more! Attendees will also be trained on effective facilitation of sexuality-related topics.

The training will be held in the Community Room of the Mexican American Unity Council Building (2300 W. Commerce Street, San Antonio, TX, 78207) from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. The cost for the training is $125 per participant,. A Big Decisions curriculum book can be purchased at the training for $75 plus tax.

Thank you also to Belinda Flores and Dr. Kristen Plastino for their special presentation about evidence-based programs.  Attendees learned about “It’s Your Game” and “Reducing the Risk”, two evidence-based sex education curricula.

We’d also like to thank all of our community members who attended HFA meetings throughout the year.  We appreciate your dedication to ensuring that all young people have healthy futures!
